| Introduction: Hello, Pilgram! I'm Gene Moore , a "born again" Christian, and Goodwill Ambassador for Jesus Christ; annointed by the Holy Ghost to teach, preach and share the Gospel (good news) of the Kingdom of God and his Righteousness, in, through, for, by and because of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour, whom God has risen from the dead. Top Back The Beginning: My life was changed forever at age 25, when I was "born again" into the kingdom of heaven. Top Back When it happened: It was on a Wednesday, November 20, 1968, early in the morning..... Top Back The Day Began With Despair: I was angry with God, and everyday was hopeless and miserable! This day started out the same old tired way. Just a week earlier, a five year old child was run over and killed a block from where we lived. It was just one more reminder that life stinks! My thoughts were: "God, I know you're there, but I don't like you very much! How could a loving God allow such a tragedy and all the other grief, suffering and poverty in the world?" I thought: "I will overcome you, God, and death, by medical science before it comes my time to die!" Obviously this kind of hopelessness just drove me deeper into despair. I actually started thinking about committing suicide but couldn't find the courage to really develop a plan. Top Back Then there came a pleasant and unexpected change! It was a cool autumn morning and about 3 miles into the commute, something happened. Something was different! I could really sense and feel the things of nature! .... WOW! ...The leaves were a golden brown, and fog was rising off the cattle tanks, as I drove along the winding country highway on the way to work. My car window was broken, and I was shivering from the cold air rushing in. I was surprisingly happy and awed by the surrounding beauty. "The Creator did good", I thought. "This is wonderful!" Top Back Suddenly a tremendous fear came over me! I sensed the presence of the Almighty, but I was unworthy. I recalled the story of Moses and the burning bush, where it said "Take off your shoes for you are on holy ground". I prayed desperately for the fear to go away, but it wouldn't. What could I do? There was no deliverence. There was no place to hide! It's as if God stopped everything in my life for the next few miles and said: "Let's deal with it!" Top Back I surrendered my life to Jesus. Finally in a desperate cry I reached out to him and said "OK God, I've tried it my way, and it didn't work. My life is in a real mess, and I need a way out. Please Dear Lord, forgive me and save me. I'll do it YOUR way!" With sincerity, I accepted the biblical teachings about Jesus, the Saviour, and the sacrifice he made for me at the cross. At that moment I accepted Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord and was BORN AGAIN! The morning of November, 20 1968, at exactly 7:00 am, at a Stop Sign on the way to work I surrendered my life to Jesus. Top Back I was "born again!" Immediately it seemed I was lifted up and out of my body, and was looking on, as an observer. There was a brand new, vibrant, alive, and powerful spirit within, crying out "Abba, Father! What would you have me do?" Top Back The Mission: Almost as quickly as "The Holy Spirit" came in, my mind started looking for the answer to that question: "Abba, Father! What would you have me do?" As I continued driving down the highway, my thoughts were: "Maybe I'll be a Preacher or a Song Leader, or a Sunday School Teacher, or a Missionary." I excitedly began to daydream about what great and noble "calling" God had in mind for me! What I eventually found out was unexpected. Exhausted in prayer, with no answer, having just finished reading a scripture from The New Testament, in Phillipians I think,the answer came: "Just witness to those around you in the workplace." What a let down, for my ego; and also, what a frightening thing to consider doing! Top Back The Mountain Top Experience: For the next six months or so, my life was so exciting! It's as if God protected me from anything that could shake my faith! I began to follow the lead of The Holy Spirit, and just trust God to handle the consequences. It was marveleous! There was nothing too impossible, and nothing to be afraid of! It was what some Christians call "The Mountaintop Experience!". What was to follow was very shocking! Top Back The Journey: As this pilgram journey moves on, many times my faith has been shaken, but one thing always remains, that has never been shaken in my walk, and that is HOPE! My life is an example of failure at so many levels, but the HOPE God gave me on November 20, 1968 always overcomes. It is a peculiar thing: when I came to the end of myself, and was on the brink of suicide; the one thing I lacked the most was HOPE. Now, many years have past, and there has not been even a single fleeting instance when HOPE has not been along to comfort me on the journey! Top Back Opinions: Some say they didn't experience it just the same way I have described. That's fine. It is up to each of God's children and God. I am not saying it has, hasn't, will or won't happen that way for anyone else. All I can do is say what happened to me. Don't worry about it though. God is in perfect control of events in each of our lives. We all waste too much time comparing ourselves to others. Top Back To Be Continued: I will continue this story as the Lord leads. For instance, Daddy and our pastor, Brother Willis, of Eastern Heights Baptist Church, read the Bible and spent many hours, in his living room one night, showing me how to be saved. It just DIDN'T happen though until I reached the stop sign on the highway that morning! Top Back PPS. PPS. Well, it seems I am going backward in time! At age nine I walked down the aisle at Parker Baptist Church, in response to a "hell fire and damnation" sermon by Brother Bill Lee. I didn't want to burn in hell! This freckled faced, left-flopped-eared, burr-cut skinny kid was ready to make the big leap of faith! I did not know anything, just that there was a "guilt-type atmosphere" there; as if I didn't step out and go down the aisle, I was considered a coward, and let me tell you: a 9 year old country boy does not want to be thought of as a coward! I moved out of my seat, close to the back, and walked down the aisle. Brother Lee asked me to shut my eyes and pray to God, and ask him if he would save me. I did, expecting to hear an audible voice answer. In about 2 minutes, Brother Lee asked me "Did Jesus say he'd save you?"........I was not about to say "No", so I said "Yes.", and the lie of my life began! Oh, I went through the whole bit of being baptized at the First Baptist Church in Cleburne, Texas because our small church at Parker, Texas did not have a Baptistry. From the age of 9 to 25 years, I lived with a lie, and a heavy burdon of GUILT. Now back to the story of what happened on the road to work that morning of November, 20, 1968; as I listen to "Learning to Lean on Jesus" by the Blackwood Brothers in the background. Top Back |
| HYMN: (This little light of mine...I'm gonna let it shine!...as we learned as children in Vacation Bible School) SCRIPTURE: Matthew 28:19 "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost." SERMON: The Bible makes it plain that God wants us to tell others about our new life ("born again") experience. "The only hope for the dying people of Earth is to be "born again" into the kingdom of Heaven!" Jesus said to Nicodemus "Ye must be born again in order to see the kingdom of heaven!" When we are born our body begins to die. Our spirit is what lives on after death. Lazerath's body had been dead for four days, but his spirit was very much alive! Jesus simply commanded Lazerath's spirit to return to his body, when he said "Lazerath, Come Forth!" Jesus also said to Martha "I am the resurrection and the life!" We have knowledge (WE KNOW!) to share! We have GOOD NEWS (the Gospel) to tell! Our "born again" testimony is like a match that God can use to light the fuse on a new, vibrant and BORN AGAIN BABY CHRISTIAN's SPIRIT! PRAYER: .. A Sinner's Prayer - an example only... God hears an earnest plea to him... So, in your own way, reach out to God in the name of Jesus: .. Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for sending your beloved Son, Jesus, as a sacrifice on the cross, to die in my place. .. I am sorry for my sins, and I repent (turn away) from my sinful, selfish life, and with your help I will be less sinful. I know I am not worthy, but I willingly accept your Son, Jesus, as my Lord and Savior, and I thank YOU for Your blessings! In Jesus' name I pray. Amen. |
